Frank Zhu: We Want To Take the Entire Surfer’s Experience From Buying a Surfboard To Shopping for a Surf Trip and to Fitness and Entertainment Into the Meta

We want to take the entire surfer’s experience from buying a surfboard to shopping for a surf trip and to fitness and entertainment into the Meta to give this amazing global community the ultimate immersion experience.

Tell us about yourself?

25 years of high finance experience in investment banking (Goldman), funds management (Australian ethical investment and Everest hedge fund), mining entrepreneur and tech VC advisor.

More importantly 10 years of almost daily surfing and extensive world travel experience. Like most Chinese Australians I grew up studying hard and wanting to get a good job.

But even since I met my wife who was a fencer and surfer my entire value system have changed for the better.

I am a passionate lifer surfer and our family travelled extensively for surfing and I have amazing surfer friends for life. I want to bring tech to the surfer community to enhance the experience on land and at sea. Meta (VR and AR) is the ultimate.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Surf more and be even less materialistic. spend more time with family

What problem does your business solve?

Businesses in surfing or related to surfing are still majority offline and fragmented.

Hard working surfboard shapers are not getting recognised and their craft is disappearing. starting at the core of this issue Surf Meta Inc will bring these core of the entire surfing community to the customers better and deliver value to them so they can enjoy their fruits of hard labour and their craft will last forever.

From this we developed the concept of Amazon of Surf which in a dedicated Metaverse everything related to surf is there to allow surfers to have the best interaction and experiences outside the H2O

What is the inspiration behind your business?

As mentioned above I am inspired by what surfing does for people. It is an art and a lifestyle. I am inspired by the surfboard shapers and what they bring to people.

We want to better connect the heart of surfing to the global surfer community

What is your magic sauce?

We think and act like hard core lifer surfers. we live the dream.

We understand every aspect of the surfing ecosystem. We know the aloha and we want to spread it.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

Build our first product Meta Shaping Bay and launch a Meta shop for thousands of individual surfboard shapers in the next 12 months.

After that we will bring in every surf biz from surf holiday makers to surf trip insurers and to surf fitness and entertainment. all under one roof.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

Funding. Like everyone we have our day jobs and family commitment. We need to find an investor who understands our passion and want to join our journey of aloha.
